General

1. What is THKD doing to ensure outpatient and inpatient safety?​

THKD takes patient, visitor and staff safety seriously. We follow the guidelines and standard operating procedures as advised by the Ministry of Health (MOH). Patients with signs and symptoms of any respiratory disease will be isolated and treated in a dedicated ward where our healthcare staff are well-trained to manage these cases.

Here are the necessary precautions taken to ensure THKD remains safe for all:

  • All patients and visitors are advised to wear a mask.
  • Hand sanitisers are available at every entrance, public areas, lift lobbies and wards.
  • Social distancing is practiced in the hospital.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn by healthcare staff at all times.
  • Patients admitted with signs and symptoms of respiratory disease are transported throughout the hospital via dedicated routes and lifts. All areas including lifts are sanitised regularly and after use by these patients.
  • All our Covid-19 patients or PUI (persons under investigation) are not allowed to leave their ward.
  • Only 1 visitor is allowed to accompany any inpatient or outpatient in our Hospital. Visitors are not allowed to linger in public areas or hospital corridors. All other visitors must wait outside the hospital.
  • It is compulsory for visitors to undergo strict screening and contact tracing procedures.
  • All common areas are cleaned and disinfected regularly with special attention to frequently touched surfaces.
  • Our security officers are stationed round-the-clock to clear these pathways and ensure safety of others.

2. How much do I need to pay for the Covid-19 test?​

Cost: RM300 for RT PCR (1-2 days)
Cost: RM300 for Molecular PCR (3-6 hours)

3. How long does it take to obtain my Covid-19 test results?​

Results will be ready within 1-2 days.

4. What should I do if I might have been exposed to Covid-19?​

  • Head to the nearest screening centre and get yourself tested for Covid-19.
  • Stay home and self-isolate for 14 days.
  • Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water regularly.
  • Wear a mask and follow physical distancing guidelines at all times.
  • If symptoms show up and persist, please seek medical assistance.
COVID-19 PATIENTS & PUI

1. What happens if I am tested positive with Covid-19 at THKD? What is the admission process?

  • THKD medical officers will call to inform of the result and advise accordingly.
  • Our medical officer will immediately notify the District Health Office.
  • Admission in THKD depends on the clinical staging of syndromes associated with Covid-19:
    • Asymptomatic patients or those with mild symptoms will be sent home for self-monitoring and quarantine. Follow the guidelines regarding home quarantine. You can refer to our guidelines at https://thomsonhospitals.com/patient-education-guide/ Call us immediately if you experience symptoms such as high fever, loss of appetite or shortness of breath.
    • Patients with severe symptoms and those who require oxygen support will be admitted to our dedicated Covid-19 ward for clinical management under a Specialist Consultant.

2. Do I have to stay in a quarantine ward?

Yes, it is necessary for you to be warded in our designated Covid-19 ward.

3. Will my Covid-19 test and admission be covered by insurance?

We advise all patients to check with their respective insurance agent regarding their policy and coverage.

VISITORS & NON COVID-19 PATIENTS

1. Should I be concerned that THKD is treating patients with Covid-19?

No. To mitigate risks of virus transmission, THKD has put in place strict safety measures for the management of Covid-19 or suspected cases in our hospital. Kindly refer to question #1.

2. How do I recognize a Covid-19 patient in hospital?​

All our Covid-19 patients or PUI are place in a dedicated ward and not allowed to leave their ward.

3. Will elective procedures carry on as scheduled?​

Yes. Elective procedures will be carried on as scheduled by your Consultant Specialist.

4. Will I be treated near Covid-19 patients?

No. All Covid-19 patients and PUI will be admitted to our designated Covid-19 ward.

5. Can I have visitors during my admission in a normal ward?

Yes, but only 1 visitor is allowed and he/she must follow the scheduled visiting hours which are Monday to Sunday, 12pm – 2pm and 6pm – 8pm.

6. What do I need to know before coming for an outpatient appointment at THKD? Will I
be tested for Covid-19?

  • Covid-19 screening will be done by Security at the entrance to the hospital, followed by a second screening at the outpatient clinic by our trained nurses before clinic visits. If you are suspected of Covid-19, you will be directed to our Communicable Disease Screening Centre for further investigation and screening.
  • If you are unwell, please inform your consultant or clinic nurse prior to arriving for your appointment.
  • The Covid-19 test is not required for outpatient appointments, but will be required prior to any invasive procedures or admission.
