What is Pathology?

Pathology is a branch of medicine involving the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues (biopsy samples), bodily fluids, and in some cases the whole body (autopsy). By having a closer look in a lab and using the latest in medical technology, our pathology experts could help you find some answers or bring you a step closer to recovery.

With the help of advanced laboratory equipment, trained laboratory staff and consultant pathologists, the laboratory facilitates the diagnoses of diseases which contribute to a better recovery process.

The Types of Pathology

Anatomical Pathology
The examination of surgical samples from the body or sometimes the whole body (autopsy) to investigate and diagnose a disease. Examples of this pathology include surgical pathology and dermatopathology for skin diseases.

Clinical Pathology
Refers to the laboratory analysis of body fluids (such as blood, urine or cerebrospinal fluid) and bodily tissue for the diagnosis of a disease. Subspecialities under this branch include chemical pathology, immunology and hematology.

Molecular Pathology
Molecular pathology is commonly used to diagnose cancer and infectious diseases. Primarily used in cancer detection such as melanoma and brain tumours, it could also be used to detect other cancers and infectious diseases.
