What is Interventional Radiology

INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY: The Secret World of Minimally Invasive Treatment

Interventional radiology (IR) therapies are minimally invasive image-guided procedures through pinholes in the skin, delivering effective treatments that allow patients to return to their lives with minimal interruption.

Advanced imaging technology provides high-resolution pictures, so interventional radiologists can navigate tiny instruments such as catheters (small tubes) through blood vessels to reach specific parts of the body to treat disease directly at the source. Today, many conditions that previously required surgery can be treated with IR. Patients can be treated with minimal pain and very little recovery time. The following are some of the procedures routinely performed by IR.
